Parks and Recreation
Planning and design of parks and recreation facilities is at the core of Wolff Landscape Architecture, Inc.’s practice of landscape architecture. Our project experience includes playgrounds; athletic fields; regional, community, and neighborhood parks; open space; multi-use trails; natural areas; and children’s gardens. Our services include planning, analysis, programming, conceptual and schematic design, contract documentation, budgeting, bid phase services, contract administration, and construction phase services, including site observation. We are often the prime consultant for a park, and engage the services of sub-consultants to provide the full range of required services, including civil and electrical engineering, lighting design, architecture, water feature design, and environmental consulting.
Playgrounds are popular and loved components of parks, and many of us have childhood memories of playing on slides and swings. Playgrounds have evolved from the era of slides, swings, and see-saws, both because children deserve a richer play experience and because codes have greatly affected playground design. Playgrounds must comply with Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) guidelines and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), including the Access Board’s rules, regulations, and guidelines that flush out the ADA’S requirements. There are often additional code and safety requirements that come from the local municipality, park district, or owner. Wolff Landscape Architecture, Inc. conceives designs that meet current standards. Children’s play experience improves when playgrounds have safe equipment, resilient surfacing, a variety of age-appropriate activities, integrated facilities, and are fully accessible. Our experience includes playground programs, design, and documentation of new playgrounds and playground renovations.
