Danville VAMC Small House Model Home
The Danville VAMC Small House Model Home project is a model home complex for the veterans of war in Danville, IL. This project consists of a landscape design for two model homes to be featured as the standard for the larger set of homes within the complex. The project concept is to showcase how landscape can allow therapeutic landscape activities to flourish within a residential use. The project is designed to be universally accessible. Design features include raised vegetable gardens, concrete patios, seat walls, low maintenance planting and accessible pedestrian walkway connections to the remaining complex. One prime example of an accessible design approach is shown in the raised vegetable gardens which are suitable for people in wheelchairs. The user has the ability to tend to the garden at a level that accommodates them. Perkins Eastman is the architect, and Wolff Landscape Architecture Inc. is the landscape architect and prime consultant. The project was completed in 2011.
